Las ideas sobre volar se remontan a siglos atr\u00e1s, desde la leyenda griega de \u00cdcaro y D\u00e9dalo, hasta el vuelo de cometas en China y el desarrollo de globos llenos de hidr\u00f3geno en 18.<sup>th<\/sup> Francia del siglo XIX, hasta los primeros experimentos con planeadores en el siglo XIX.<sup>th<\/sup> siglo Inglaterra y Alemania. El vuelo dur\u00f3 s\u00f3lo 12 segundos, recorri\u00f3 120 pies y alcanz\u00f3 una velocidad m\u00e1xima de 6,8 millas por hora.  Sorprendentemente para el d\u00eda, una de las cinco personas que presenciaron este hist\u00f3rico primer vuelo tom\u00f3 una fotograf\u00eda del evento. En 1905, completaron un vuelo de 24 millas en su Flyer III.
